Parks for Children and MICHELIN Restaurants: Indian Tour Operators Told About Moscow
In India, the final international digital roadshow organised by Mostourism ended this year. The digital roadshow generated interest from the Indian tourism industry, with some 330 tour operators from different regions of the country taking part. Moscow was represented by more than 30 representatives of the tourism industry.
Over the three days of the roadshow, 685 online meetings were held, and further international interaction between the countries will be built on this basis. This will attract a large number of new tourists from India to Moscow.
The Indian region is a very promising source of inbound tourism to the capital. In just three years, the tourist flow to Moscow from India almost doubled, from 61,000 trips in 2016 to 109,000 in 2019. In the same year, India ranked sixth among non-CIS countries by number of trips to Moscow. In the first three quarters of 2021, Indian tourists had already made about 36,000 trips to Moscow. The recovery of tourist flow compared to the same period in 2019 was therefore 40 percent.
When choosing a place to stay, Indian tourists pay special attention to the level of comfort and the availability of restaurants with a variety of cuisines, including vegetarian. The location of the hotel is an equally important criterion, as Indians prefer walking around the city. Indian tourists also like to visit historical sites, and they pay particular attention to churches, as they find similarities with their native places. Of those visiting Moscow in 2021, about 70 per cent of Indian tourists preferred to stay in four- and five-star hotels.

“Representatives of the capital’s travel industry told foreign partners how the city had changed during the coronavirus pandemic, what security measures had been taken, and what new products awaited Moscow visitors. They presented the Russpass travel service, which can be used to plan trips to Russia, and the main Discovermoscow.com portal for travellers. Users could learn about the latest news from Moscow and choose leisure activities to their liking, from museums to gastromarkets. In total, about 75 representatives of the foreign travel industry and more than 25 Moscow B2B participants registered for the event,” the press service said.
In addition, Yuliya Zaikova, the Head of the Regional and International Projects Department of the St. Petersburg Committee for Tourism Development, presented the tourist potential of the city to foreign colleagues within the framework of the Two Cities – a Million Impressions project. The objective of the programme is to encourage tourists not to choose between Moscow and St. Petersburg, but to treat them as a unified whole, two points on one big route. The project includes a calendar of events, tourist routes, and excursions, which are collected on one web page.
“The topic of gastronomy in Moscow is especially relevant now, as the gala ceremony for assigning Michelin stars to restaurants was held at Zaryadye on 14 October. The guide included 69 establishments, nine of which received the coveted marks,” the press service added.
